Professional chamber and bar elections in Turkey: list and candidate communication
In elections for bar associations, medical chambers, chambers of engineers and architects, chambers of certified public accountants, pharmacists’ chambers and chambers of tradespeople and craftsmen, the voters are the profession’s own members. We prepare the communication of lists and candidates in the language of the profession: identity, introduction film, member visits, social media and a list website.
Which elections, which rules?
Under Article 135 of the Constitution, the bodies of professional organisations with public-institution status are elected by their members by secret ballot under judicial supervision. The election period, the general assembly procedure and the bodies are set out in each organisation’s own law and regulations:
- Bar associations: Attorneys’ Act No. 1136
- Medical chambers: Law No. 6023
- Chambers of engineers and architects: Law No. 6235
- Chambers of independent accountants and financial advisers (SMMM): Law No. 3568
- Chambers of pharmacists: Law No. 6643
- Chambers of tradespeople and craftspeople: Law No. 5362
Trade union general assemblies are governed by Law No. 6356; the ordinary general assembly is held at least every four years. We have a separate page for chambers of commerce and industry and commodity exchanges: chamber of commerce and commodity exchange election campaigns.
Member-focused communication
In a professional body election, the electorate is clearly defined and brings the profession’s own agenda: professional issues, training, solidarity and the body’s services. Communication addresses this agenda in respectful, informative language. List identity, candidate introductions, footage of visits and meetings, and the list website share the same visual language.
What do we prepare?
- List identity: name, logo or symbol, colours and templates
- List and candidate introduction films, short videos
- Photo and video coverage of member visits and meetings
- List website: candidates, priorities, timetable and contact
- Social media plan and information content for general assembly day
Similar experience: Gebze Chamber of Commerce
We are running Abdurrahman Aslantaş’s entire campaign in the Gebze Chamber of Commerce election: campaign and strategy management, press relations, corporate identity, social media management, videos on the work of the election committees, a 24-video YouTube series and a Turkish-English campaign website. We bring this experience of communicating with a defined electorate of members to professional chamber and bar association elections. Our guide to communication in chamber of commerce elections also helps with preparation.
